Firewall

My school's technology department has put up a firewall to prevent us from downloading music. Is there anyway to get passed the firewall?

First step. Go to your nearest English teacher and ask for remedial study so that you can learn when to use 'passed' and when to use 'past' in a sentence.

Correct possibilities:
Is there anyway to get past the firewall?
Is there anyway to get passed through the firewall?

I'm not the expert on this but I think it depends on whether they are blocking access to the site or using port-blocking software.

Port blocking is usually used to block streaming media in which case it might not be the problem. If they are blocking the site then you can use one of the many anonymizer sites but to transfer data you will need to "join" (meaning pay them). Google "anonymous web browsing" and choose one of the many sites. Basically, you go to the site and enter the URL of the site you really want to go to and they tunnel you in.

However, if the site-blocking software is also blocking the anonymizer then you will need to keep trying till you find an unblocked one.

Well, technically Rich, a correct example would require "anyway" to be split into "any way" as well.

That's a really, really simple question you're asking, crossfire.

The correct answer is ... download music at home.

If he lives in the dorms, "home" may be controlled by the school's firewall as well.

Ah, this brings back memories of working for my school district, fixing all the broke-ass macs and pc's after school till about 7 at night. Some of these kids really know how to mess up a computer... They thought they were crafty trying to get around the school's web filter, deleting important files, basically making my job even more of a pain in the ass. But we could remotely moniter any group of computers at one time, and if they went somewhere they weren't suppossed to, *zing* computer goes into standby and only we can bring it out...
We would also see if certain.. repeat offenders, logged onto a computer and we would send them a little message telling, just to let em know we're watching.. Sometimes we would watch one kid remotely get real far into breaking through the web filter, then we would shut down his computer.
It was priceless seeing the expressions on some of their faces
