viscious herbage.
There's an orchid show on at the moment at the Kew Gardens, by an odd series of events I ended up there after shooting something else so I took the opportunity to fill up my CF cards with pwetty flowers. What really got me though were these amazing fly-eating ones. Didn't really have the gear with me for the job but did a decent job all things considered, all are unedited. Sadly they're all a bit washed out here, as far as I can ascertain browsers don't read profiles, if you download them they should look better.

These are the "Lady Slipper" variety, no? I spent a small fortune on orchids when I lived in San Francisco, but could never get them to bloom, and I usually killed them off quickly--no green thumb here. I always thought there was something slightly obscene about the lady slippers; but I love the waxy thick petals of the flowers. Cool pix!

I think it's time to rewatch Pink Floyd's The Wall.
Doesn't Beletseri or somebody here grow orchids?

Hummm orchids, there's a flower I haven't tried shooting yet, makes for an interesting subject. Awesome shots, Jag!

So strange and lovely and sexy.
Last summer I found a huge stand (15-20) blooming native pink ladyslippers in Northern Wisconsin woods, just off a boggy bridge. Most Ive ever seen in one place all in bloom. Of course the crazed skeeters made prolonged contemplation a bit dicey. Jag, the buds are as or more lovely than the open blossoms. |

I'm sure they are. This is the first time I've tried shooting flowers with an SLR, I don't own a macro lens so I was shooting with a 200mm lens and sitting the required 1.2m back. It's a big hot house, beautifully laid out, lots of pro photographers there, met one guy with a proper macro rig, very, very cool. Added to the 'dispose of my disposeable income' list.
How washed out these look here is shitting me, I'm going to see if I can re-save them somehow. edit: It's a big hot house, not a big shot.

I'm not an expert on orchids or any flower, but I did find this to be cool. Downloaded pictures were very intense to me; I'm not sure why but hey were.......
