Welcome aboard. The natives are friendly... mostly.

You have two ways to go about dealing with the Netmeeting problem. Number one, if your router has a "DMZ" setting you can use that. What that does is allow you to designate one device on your network which has completely unrestricted access to the Internet... no filters, no firewall, etc. This is what I personally do because I'm to lazy to figure out #2 and I always knwo when I'm getting a Netmeeting call (or I don't want it!)

The second way is, as you've figured out, to customize the router's firewall to pass the right ports. This Micro$oft Knowledge Base article will give you the skinny:
