chain emails
I got a forward from a woman I work with, someone I actually like as she has the same effed up sense of humor and disdain for stupidity in the workplace that I have, about child abuse. I figured she would know better.
It's a really horrible poem written from the viewpoint of a child who is a victim of abuse. It's called "Daddy it hurts." It gets worse, there's a line near the end that goes something like this: Oh me, oh my...I have to say My daddy murdered me today. Yes, I'm making up the first line...the second line is verbatim. It ends with this admonition: IF YOU ARE AGAINST CHILD ABUSE! Post this as ‘Daddy … it hurts’ If you do not send this to everyone you know Then you obviously don’t care about child abuse At first I thought this was just a chain letter and I wasn’t going to send it either, but now I realize that this is an important situation At least 5 children each day from around the world die from child abuse. If you are heartless and chose to do nothing but delete this, then let you be abused, and you will know how they feel.. WTF? Certainly I am against child abuse, but what does forwarding this email do? My question then, is...what do the spammers gain from people forwarding emails such as this, and the thousands of other chain emails out there? Do they get money? Do they get some kind of celestial credit? I'm so confused. And apparently, I'm an evil soul for not forwarding that mail to "everyone I know." You're welcome.

There was a drink drive "poem" going round a couple of years back with a similar admonition. That if you didn't forward it then you were pro drink-drink and it served you right if your family were killed by a drink-driver - or something equally spiteful.
I have no idea why otherwise sensible people choose to distribute this trash. |

Pete gets this kind of stuff from someone close to us who is otherwise pretty sensible. Does it say something about her perception of us? Bogging down the net with this kind of traffic almost looks like a ritual sacrifice. I guess if it saves a goat...

my mom used to send me all that crap even though i told her repeatedly it annoyed me. finally i decided to reply to each of those emails she sent me. No words, just a picture of some chick topless.
I rarely get those corny emails from mom anymore.

Was it the same chick every time? Maybe Mom just got tired of the lack of variety.

After years of sending "Make snopes your homepage." replies, I've been thinking about responding to stupid forwards, especially the ones with every fricking person's email address visible, with a very serious sounding alarm letter warning them of the dangers of Dihydrogen Oxide and how they should write an email to washington etc etc hoping that they will realize how they are not intelligent enough to use the interwebs. Also I think I can automatically filter out any message which has 'aol' in the address, that would take care of 90% of the junk...

IIRC a city council somewhere (CA, I believe) debated and voted to ban the use of Dihydrogen Oxide within city limits after hearing how it made its way into so many aspects of daily life and has been linked directly to a number of deaths each year.

GET THE FACTS! Here is a site explaining all about the risks of Dihyrogen monoxide, and places you might expect to find it, as well as accounts of use by such genocidal groups as Nazis and the KKK.
http://www.dhmo.org/facts.html The more you know...

I could NOT convince my colleague that the popcorn YouTube wasn't real.
I bet her £100 and offered my popcorn kernals and mobile to help disprove it. Not interested, thought it was a trick (of mine) What can you do? Drives me as mad as Big Brother does - every year and this year especially! Lord knows why I watch it, except as an exercise in human nature. They all hate eachother so quickly, suspect eachother of everything, and their biggest issue is Who Is Fake, Who Is Real, Who Is Being Themself. And the outside world judges them on Who Is Bitching, Who Is Moaning, Who Is A Backstabber. Sorry, it's on at the moment.... Grrrrrr! Since posting here I'd like to think I've developed some more self-awareness. I hope so. Less about hating myself automatically and more about reviewing my attitude towards other people. Anyway. As you were. |

My wife gets tons of that krap from her mother and her cousin and her ... aunt? ... and one of her idiot friends. Maybe I ought to reply like that to stop the spamflow. |
