Did you know that tofu is one of THE most environmentally damaging foods you could possibly eat? They by product is particularly toxic, and in most cases because it's produced in Asia, that byproduct is emptied directly into rivers.

Noooooooo! Noooooooo! Fuck, really?

I do know that soya crops generally are not brilliant (I believe there's been some clearing of rainforest in order to grow more soya?) But I didn't know that about tofu. Of course, not all tofu is made in Asia. There's a British firm that make tofu over here in the traditional style.

It is true, but as you say, it's generally the Asian companies who are at fault. China in particular. Tofu of course is manufactured in lots of western countries now as you say, and obviously there are regulations about what to do with the byproducts which can be quite toxic to the environment.

Unfortunately, China and some other Asian countries don't have these same regulations which allow companies to get away with dumping the refuse into rivers.

I can't find the info I want online for some reason. Just a whole heap of stuff about what other countries do with their refuse, but nothing that even mentions China. There used to be videos and pictures of it with articles talking about what happens to the rivers etc, but they just aren't there now and Dazza can't lay his hands on the articles he had a while back just at the moment.

I guess my advice would be to not eat tofu made in asian countries if you want to be sure it's manufactured in an environmentally sound manner.
