My cousin just named their newborn son DeeJay Bryne...not Brian, or Bryan....Bryne. I tried to explain to them that it sounds like Brine but they are 20 years old and they know everything.
I told them, "Hey, he's your kid. Name him what you want, but he may hate you for it later. And if he comes home with bloody nose or a busted lip because he got into a fight over his name, remember....it's YOUR fault. You did this to him." The kid may go by DB like DB Cooper.

I hate DeeJay more; everyone has weird middle names. DeeJay isn't a name; it's an occupation.
Still waiting to hear on the two new ones. I think BD#1 is holding out for Orion. BD#2 has no clue and doesn't know if she's having a B or G. They like "Revel" or maybe something with "Lux" in the middle name. Oy.

My kids love their unusual names. Maybe Radar's cousin won't be stupid enough to send DeeJay to a school where the kids are stupid enough to beat up kids with unusual names.
A kid just got kicked at my kids' school. It is a big deal and resulted on suspensions, first time ever. Kid's name was Cody. Maybe it was too normal? When kids are bullied "because of their names", it's just an excuse for people who don't want to admit other prejudices or other character problems that upset them. Let's see: Star Quarterback named Shirley Math Club President and Valedictorian called Brad. you choose.... Radar, you're shallow.

Emma ... yes, a BABY name alright.
![]() IRL I have known three Emmas. One fairly nice, one dumb as a box of hammers, one nymphomaniac slut with an alcohol problem. Good thing I don't believe names affect personality, eh?

Please, for the love of all that is holy, don't ever give your children names that are in the top ten for popularity (e.g., Emma.) Personally, I'd say nothing in the top 100.
Seriously, it is a pain in the fucking ass to have a too-common name. |

There was one memorable visit to the obstetrician (where the effect is exacerbated since all the patients are female and within a reasonable age bracket) where of the eight people in the waiting room, five of us had the same name. It's just stupid.

Say clod, did you ever find that people assumed you were stupid because you had a common neme? My sister did, and she was far from stupid, but somehow people seemed to expect rocks for brain

That's an interesting question... I can't think of any instances for sure--in the times when I was faced with someone who was assuming I was stupid, I always figured it was because I was young and/or a girl. There's a reason I chose an androgynous handle when I joined here, and didn't put my birth year in my profile for a long time.
