Unhappy My kitty is sick

My 3yr old kitty seems to be sick-she is lethargic, sneezing, unactive (she normally runs around 24hrs a day), and her eyes are running. I think she has the H1N1....does she need antibiotics or will she get better on her own? If you know any "real" information on this can you please respond back...I have been reading the same info over and over, and nothing can give me a direct answer to whether or not she needs meds and/or how expensive they are.......thank you

Take her into the vet, Jenn. She could have any number of conditions. H1N1 could just be one of them. And good luck with your baby. Is she still drinking water? That's very important.

Heehee.

Welcome Jenn.

Has kitty had shots for all other possibilities (like distemper, feline leukemia?) I would take kitty to the doc right away. 3 is very young and she'll probably be fine, but if nothing else transpires maybe they can give her something to make her feel better?

When my cats have been sick, it may end up costing 50 to 150 bucks, but usually they are feeling better right away or very soon, and so am I because they are, and I don't have to worry anymore.

Has your cat been tested for Feline Leukemia? That's what would worry me. I had a cat once with that exact presentation, and found out he was dying. If so it's not necessarily a death sentence, it just means you have to take extra special good care of him, keep him separate from unvaccinated kitties, and be aware that he might not have a "normal" life span. And be relatively expensive.

But chances are your kitty just has a cold. Three of mine have been sick recently, eyes watering, sniffling and sneezing. If she's still eating and drinking fairly well I wouldn't worry so much, but if not, take her in for antibiotics.

And, just to add to the pile, if it's H1N1 or another viral illness, antibiotics will do no good and might do harm (allergies, side effects and breeding resistant superbugs).

Just like people, y'all.

Man, when I saw "My kitty is sick", I thought you were going to say you have a yeast infection.

Try the veal.

Then again, it might be feline leukemia.

But the chicken parmigiana platter, antipasto, garlic bread -- that's virtuous.

Actually, I was responding to Jenn's post. I don't know how our posts got transposed that way.

But my own kitty is doing very nice-0000000000000 (Kitten on the keys!). Ahem, very nicely. Thank you for asking.

Oh right. I do know, and still got confused.

Oh well, glad to hear your "kitty" is well.
