nhl
eastern conference

atlantic
1]pittsburgh penguins 34
2]new jersey devils 31
3]philadelphia flyers 27
4]new york rangers 27
5]new york islanders 25

the penguins, as expected, continue to be elite, but despite my projections in 06 for them to be in the stanley cup 3 years in a row, i don't think they're the top candidate this season.
the devils are on the fall, but might squeeze in to the play-offs as some of the other competitors seem weaker.
expect the rangers and flyers to get stronger as the season moves on...both teams are capable of going all the way.
the islanders are better, but give em a couple years.

northeast
1]ottawa senators 29
2]boston bruins 28
3]buffalo sabres 26
4]montreal canadiens 25
5]toronto maple leafs 17

the bruins should win this division, and the seantors should make the play-offs.
the sabres, despite their early form, have fallen, and should fall some more.
the canadiens are a better team, but suffer from injuries to key players.
i have been making fun of the leafs for quite some time, but i must say, that they are, at this time, on the road to rebuilding...finally.
they're getting rid of the old and going young...it'll take some years, but we finally have something positive to say about them.

southeast
1]washington capitols 34
2]tampa bay lightening 25
3]atlanta thrashers 25
4]florida panthers 24
5]carolina hurricaine 15

no suprise here as far as washington is concerned.
tampa bay is as young as a team can get.
hedmans playing 28 minutes a game in his rookie season.
tampa will suprise in the play-offs.
atlanta is a really good team....bogosian looks like he'll be a dominant defender for years to come....i'll be suprised if they don't make the play-offs.
florida, i'm not so sure about.
carolina at the start of the season, for some reason, was placed as the 2nd favorite int his division.
they are amongst the worst teams in the nhl

western conference

central
1]chicago blackhawks 34
2]nashville predators 29
3]columbus blue jackets 27
4]detroit red wings 26
5]st.louis blues 22

this is easily the best division in the west.
the blackhawks, as i projected, have taken this division over.
the blue jackets, with filatov sent down to russia, and mason playing less and less, look to be drafting this season, despite their already amazing team....look out for columbus next year as they may surpass chicago.
nashville looks to fall after some early form.
the blues are 2nd half of the season team, don't be suprised if they squeeze in to the play-offs again.
the detroit red wings are in a tough position as their players are starting to use their sticks as canes.

northwest
1]colorado avalanche 32
2]calgary flames 31
3]vancouver canucks 26
4]edmonton oilers 23
5]minesota wild 19

colorado is a suprise, but i don't think it will last.
they may squeeze in to the play-offs as the west is becoming weaker as elite teams of the past look to rebuild.
the flames as projected, should win this division, and seem to be, along with ottawa, the strongest canadian teams in the nhl.
the canucks will not make the playoffs...you can quote me on that
the canucks in my eyes, are the worst run franchise in the nhl
the oilers have made the same kind of mistakes as the canucks, but they are younger.
the wild are clearly rebuilding as they should.

pacific
1]san jose sharks 36
2]la kings 30
3] dallas stars 29
4]phoinex coyotes 27
5]anaheim ducks 21

the sharks remain one the strongest teams in the nhl.
not too many teams in the west will be able to beat them when it counts..they are a candidate for the stanley cup.
no suprise in the kings as they hold some serious hockey players.
the stars are as mediocre as ever.
bryzgalov is one of the main reasons the coyotes have 27 points, but overall, they are well under par.
the ducks, despite trading pronger, remain elite, but as mentioned at the start of the season, this is without doubt, a drafting year.
