Not Publishers Clearinghouse....and

.. no, you dont have a chance to win $millions..but it does ultimately influence federal grants to your city/town.

Dear Resident:

About one week from now, you will receive a 2010 Census form in the mail. When you receive your form, please fill it out and mail it in promptly. Your response is important. Results from the 2010 Census will be used to help each community get its fair share of government funds for highways, schools, health facilities, and many other programs you and your neighbors need. Without a complete, accurate census, your community may not receive its fair share. Thank you in advance for your help.

See a sample form:
Fill it out..or the men in black will come knocking on your door.

I love the "where, in the constitution..." questions. Where, in the constitution, does it say people can buy mangos? Where, in the constitution, does it say that you can prohibit porn shops from opening in your neighborhood. Where, in the constitution, does it say that the government can install stop signs at intersections? Where, in the constitution, does it say that roller coasters can travel upside down?

I thought the census was to count the population.

They had gender and over/under 16 age demographics from the start (not to mention Indians and slaves); fine-tuned the age demographics by the second census, and started getting into occupation by the fourth, and disabilities by the fifth.

The Census 2010 will ask the following:

* Name
* Sex
* Age and date of birth
* Race (you may choose one or more races)
* Hispanic origin (considered an ethnicity, not a race)
* Relationship (How are the people in the household related to each other?)
* Housing tenure (Is the home owned or rented?)

This seems all fine to me, Whats all the buzz about this other form, the American Community Survey? Is that required as well?

How much did it cost to send out the letters saying they were gonna send out the census forms soon? Apparently money just grows on trees now....

It is a halmark of the new open check book method of operation. Get use to it. They will be back in another month or two to get their pound of your financial flesh.

What's the big deal? A company that does not take inventory soon goes out of business. The census is just an inventory of the country.

Census Bureau research shows that reaching out to respondents with an advance letter and reminder postcard if necessary can boost census mail-back rates and save money. For every 1 percent increase in households that respond by mail, taxpayers save about $85 million in operational costs associated with census takers going door to door to follow up with households that did not mail back the form.
I seem to remember the last census, 10 years ago, was pages and pages.
The one 5 years ago was too.

I agree, it is not a huge deal, but I don't think of myself as a product...more as a citizen.
