That looks like a fairly stiff spring. Is it shown in it's normal operating orientation?

I thought that at first but since you can see the little hairs of Fabric(?) it looked like something in a bike seat.

It's a macro shot of a common item from an unusual angle. But it's in its normal configuration. Hasn't been taken apart.
