good enough--you've relieved my mind! I've sort of been involved in consumer advocacy re: the body modification industry for a while, and this pushed my buttons a bit.

Cool stuff so far. I've seen military guys wearing patches or duct tape with blood type on their gear, never tattoos before. Good spot since that's typical IV site.

Not a new concept.

The SS blood group tattoo was applied, in theory, to all Waffen-SS members, except members of the British Free Corps. It was a small black ink tattoo located on the underside of the left arm, usually near the armpit.

Putting the tattoo on the underside of the upper arm protected it from damage. In theory, you would only lose the tattoo if you lost your entire left arm.

The Russian Army has a different view.

The guidelines, which cover all aspects of military life, are quoted as saying that tattoos may indicate a "low cultural and educational level" and "possible sexual deviations".

A young man who allows himself to be tattooed may be inclined to "submit to the will of others", they warn.

No wonder they lost the Cold War.
