Okay, so the nuthouse is doing The Biggest Loser. There is a total of $900 at stake, which will be divided into 4 prizes -- 1st thru 4th Biggest Loser if there is a mix of males and females leading, 1st and 2nd Male and 1st and 2nd female if all the males lose weight faster to compensate for that effect ... so the initial setup appears to include elements of fairness.

There are two rules. No Bariatric Surgery and No Starvation.

So I hear the person who is organizing it on the phone yesterday ... she's saying "and so and so is in it ..."

So and so has gastric bypass.

I have called foul, but so far they are allowing her to be in, claiming, "Well, she plateaued. She's really doing it for the support and motivation."

"She's cheating," I say. She should not be in it.

So, FatLeader is going to poll the other participants to see if they mind that someone who is cheating is in the game.

Maybe they can let her participate for some other prize if she reaches a certain goal since she has an unfair advantage. That way she can feel included.

This one. She shouldn't be eligible for the prize. If she loses weight she gets a Miss Congeniality-type prize.

If she's more than two years out from gastric bypass surgery, she's already lost all she's going to lose from the surgery. Any additional that she might lose will take the same effort that you'll have to put forth.

Just about a year, according to other folks.

She has already lost about 100 pounds, also according to other's reports.

From what I've guessed about her height, and what I know about her weight, she's at or near average weight for height, based on the table.

i used to work with a guy that was so big he had to use a commercial scale to weigh himself. he did the gastric bypass and lost a lot of weight, something like 300 or more pounds. but rumor has it, he;s gained it all back.

I know I throw this out there far too often, but here it is. I lost 250 lbs. with diet and exercise. I've kept all but about 10-15 lbs of it off, and most of the gain has been muscle.

I hit my lowest weight in mid-2005 at 220 lbs (I'm 6'6").

I'm not a fan of gastric bypass. It's fine when it's used to save a life that is in immediate danger. I know some people have done it and succeeded. But most of the people I know that did it used it as a workaround for their lack of self-control and discipline.

There's no such thing as a free lunch, even if that lunch costs thousands of dollars. (I love faux wisdom.)

Not if you take it one decision at a time. That means you have to stop and actually make the decision and frame it as a good versus poor decision. You get in the habit, and it becomes self-perpetuating.

If she's almost at the average weight for her height, then she is actually at a disadvantage not an advantage. The less you have to lose the slower it comes off. It's when you are really overweight that the weight comes off fast and in high amounts.

I'm kind of counting on this effect. So is my male shift-partner who outweighs me (probably by about 60 to 75 pounds, I'm not going to ask him, though).

You should take a before and after picture and post them for us to see. I wish there's some contest for me to participate so I would make myself to lose the fat I want.
