I've *read* that silencers are less effective on automatics than on revolvers, because the breech opens during firing.
After seeing this I am rather doubtful about that claim.

Somewhat off topic:
If you've ever been around someone shooting a .22 auto w/a modern suppressor, you don't actually hear the bang, you only hear the sonic crack of the bullet, and not even that if'n you use sub-sonic ammo. My point: You can actually hear the slide and ejector work when you shoot. It's kinda cool.
