Let's us not be hasty, now. I am simply more selective, more ... discerning.I've kind of got this thing against cross species licking. I'm all for tasty animals, just.. not that way.

I groom Diz because I know his adolescence was in a houseful of cats, and that he weathered our first move because Dylan was with him. They scrapped, played, chased but mostly shared warmth and attended to eachother's needs.

My attempt at replacing Dylan with another cat failed miserably (I still feel so guilty that I had to leave Hely behind, even though I knew she had a guaranteed home).
So all he has is me.

I try to replicate what another cat would do.
Which means licking.
But I never lick my cat.
I find alternatives.

Wet pokey sticks to clean the safe part of the ear.
Kitchen towel dipped in warm water to clean eyes and nose (and in slightly salty water if I suspect an infection).
Careful check on his belly for fleas - very fine fur there, I could see them running around the time he had them. But a thorough search like Nitty Norah the Flea Explorer none the less, which he purrs at (probably remembering the nasty biters).

The cat being licked looks like a Singa.
And I probably could if I wanted to.
But it's WRONG.
