Samsung, Toshiba, ASUS, Lenovo, Apple are all top tier for reliability. BUT higher grade HPs are also top tier, and the Envy is higher grade.

This is interesting, need to get monster a new laptop, for many years we bought several laptops and they all cost $600-$650, then suddenly a couple of years ago the basic models became $350-$400, but as mentioned have only really lasted barely 1- 2 years.
I've really been considering going back to the $600 bracket, probably Lenovo, good to see that many laptops in this higher bracket are good ( not Dell?), thought Toshibas were poor.
I thought windows 8.1 was OK form what I've read.
