Sounds like a great investment to me!

You know, I'm pushing 50, I use EBay, and I'm a frustrated musician. I think I could do this for only $150k.

Anybody wanna donate? Or should I just ask my doc for a scrip for Clozaril?

Oh yes, yes you should. And take pictures. And post MP3s.

Although he strikes me as the sort of guy with no actual material, just a list of excuses about how he doesn't have the money to make any demos, nobody will give him studio time, he's too far away from the "real" session players, no one around here can play his songs .... etc .... etc .... etc.

Interesting that particular point in the thread was revived cos I played out this weekend for the first time since that post.

Played bass for a singer-songwriter sort whose songs are, I'm sure, twice as good as what this guy in Utah will bring

But like the Utah guy, he has no money

And I'm thinking there is probably already a glut of guys like this.

(But I was so happy to play his very good songs. In a theatrical production, for a comedy troupe doing a Saturday Night Live thing and we were the musical act. I did it for fun; I had fun; mission accomplished. The eBay guy ought to take that attitude.)

two things come to mind:

A friend who is making a good living as a character actor here in LA. He has often said something like, "When people say they want to be an actor, what they usually mean is they want to be famous. People who really want to act, act. They act in community theatre, in workshops, for indie films, they go out and act regardless of who will see it or how much it pays." Same applies to music, I think. If you want to be a musician, go and find ways to be a musician. If you want to be a rock star, that's a very different thing.

A prof at school who was teaching after several years on the road with different artists, "Everyone gets their break. If you hang around in this industry long enough, somewhere, sometime, a door opens or a call comes. The guys who make it are the guys who recognize the break for what it is, and who have the skills that the gig demands when the call comes."

True enough.

That must be the whacky Irish guy that kept getting thrown out of Pop Idol.(you may not have seen him in the US) I know he was on the UK and Irish version.
A man of geat vision but handicapped because of nil talent.
