The big story here is rain. Rain and wind.
Early mornings are a problem for drivers because of black ice. When everywhere is snow and ice people drive carefully. But that hidden slick that suddenly takes the wheels is a killer. Mainly though it's rain. And wind. Not so terrible up here in the northern hills, but the poor buggers down south and on the coast are having a very rough time.

Oh, quit complaining. This is how droughts end!
The snow and ice is crucial (esp in the mountains) for refilling rivers and aquifers. This has been badly needed for a decade or more. I look forward to FINALLY burning my burn pile, which has reached massive proportions by now. |

Bugger that. We're having our wettest year in two and a half centuries and swathes of the south are under water.

My back is still achy from yesterday. I don't know about you guys, but we had about 8 inches of snow and then it turned to a constant drizzle, making the snow extremely heavy. I did our driveway and also the driveway of the little old lady next to us. If we had this every year, I'd definitely go out and buy a snow blower.

Was slightly miffed by Cameron and his 'money no object' promise in regards to the flood victims down south. There was no such blank cheque for the residents of Hebden Bridge and the rest of the Calder Valley when they were waist deep in water. Many of them only just getting straight when the next lot of floods hit. Lots of businesses suffered, some had to close down in the end, they lost so much. There wasn't any waiver of business tax for them. Of course...to an extent his are empty promises. Because they're still planning on cutting 500+ jobs from the river and flooding agencies. Maybe if they'd employed a little foresight and not cut back on anti-flood measures and dredging then the Thames area at least would be ok. And maybe if we stopped building on the flood plains things would be a whole lot better.

I for one embrace our new god Ullr. Broke some awesome trail the last two days. Benny is tired, letting the snow balls melt by standing next to me.
