I agreed with the basic idea that 9/11 should be remembered. I strongly disagreed with the notion that 9/11 gives us carte blanche to attack any country anywhere just because 'they looked at us funny'.
Again, the soldiers oath is to support and defend the US Constituion from foreign and domestic enemies. What people choose to do with those freedoms is up to them. The war on terror may be a generational conflict. The idea that we should suspend our freedoms for 30 years to be safer is ridiculous. The idea that we should not question our leaders decisions and blindly follow them is exactly what our forefathers were warning us about. What this guy seems to be saying is that to prove you are not afraid and deserve to be free, give up your freedom and get in line. Stupid.

We also need to remember that 9/11 is my birthday....now that the shameless self-promotion has ended, I actually do have something to say (shades of Eric Idle saying "And now, for something completely different.)
I was asked not too long ago in one of the more spirited debates I regularly find myself a part of, what *I* would do as president if an attack occured. Luckily, I had considered this. What I would do, first things first, is find the men responsible and bring them to justice. A military operation must result, because that's simply the way we do things. However, it will be a military operation with the consent and support of the rest of the world, and its focus will only be on bringing these men to justice. Pre-emptive war is bullshit, plain and simple. It's using our military to try to run the world, and it is wrong on the most basic levels, especially for a nation that stands for freedom and democracy (rule of the people...if we are to be true to our principles, and some nation wants an islamic theocracy, by majority, then we must let them have it). Also, as prevention of another attack goes, there are two things. Tightening borders and security as illegal immigrants and imported goods are concerned, and removing the motivations for terrorism. Our docks are so mind-bogglingly weak right now that it is easy to bring in weapons and people. One may have seen the episode of Comedy Central's Insomniac where host Dave Attel crossed the US-Mexican border *twice* with ease, and talked to people who crossed it illegally, every day, as part of their routine. As removing the motivations for terrorism goes, the major threat now is Islamic, and as much as we like to think that they 'hate our freedom', there are changes we can make to remove the political motivations for them to fight. First, we need to use our influence to force Ariel Sharon to be a decent fucking person. We already are, to some extent. Two of the major reasons they hate Israel are the West Bank and Gaza Strip, both of which were annexed by Israel in "defensive wars." The Likud Party, of which Sharon is a member, wants a Jewish state, with only Jewish citizens, and we continue to support them with money and weapons. Funny, if some other race wants their own country, no outsiders, we call it ethnic cleansing and we bomb the fuck out of them. Also, we need to stop the essential raping of middle-eastern oilfields. Alternative energy sources are on the cusp of viability, and as soon as we get off oil, we quit feeding money (and, therefore, power) to the extremist nations that want to attack us. The sooner we get out of the middle-east and stop meddling in their affairs the better. We tend to do things like fund and train the Taliban, or put the Baathists in power when we fuck around over there, and it never fails to come back and bite us in the ass. Also, I feel it's worth mentioning that my justification for opposing the War in Iraq consists of two words, "Where's Osama?" There. Those are my plan for post-attack America. That's what I'd do, what would you?
