Went For a Walk

Got bored and went for a walk, being a sensible fella I took the camera with me and was quite pleased how this one came out...

Anyhow, Sorry for imposing this, I just wanted to share (there are other piccies from the walk kicking about in that directory, available in larger format should anyone be daft enough to want them, just ask )

I live in Roslin, in Scotland, which is part of the UK.

Roslin being famous for being the home of the first cloned Sheep.

Scotland being famous for braveheart (which was filmed in ireland).

And the UK being famous for, well, begger all really.

I snuck in to that directory (you didn't mention where it was, but your post has it in the source) and took a look at the large version (1280x960), and it's very nice indeed.

I love looking at large-format images that take up the whole monitor. I find them to be much more striking than any of the old prints. There's something about them.. a certain presence.

Oh yeah, and the northern country is just fantastic. As a youngster I lived in Sheffield for a school year, 3rd form (9th grade), and we were right next to the peak district. There's something about rugged hills that make them great to live by, in my opinion.

Spooky coincidence I was born in Airdale, which isn't far from Sheffield, less than 20 miles at any rate....

Really wonderful composition with the solid form of the bridge as a contrast to the motion of the water below... but what I'm really wondering is if I could clear that bank and ford the stream on my mountain bike without cracking my skull.

Dafydd, that's some good stuff.
I really like the outdoors/snow/night ones. (I'm a sucker for "postcard" pictures in general.)
General question: Do you take the same picture a million times with different settings and then pick the best one, or do you just shoot it and it's good? I'm much more of the million-times persuasion, although I do feel like I'm getting more the hang of what things will look like. Especially with very bright scenes I'll try taking it a couple of different degrees darker though.

Actually I end up taking a lot more than that sometimes... I forget the camera is on manual focus (I use a digital) and the viewfinder doesn't always show when something is in/out of focus... so I take the first 3 pics, then notice that I forgot to focus--and have to do 3 more after I get the right focus.

Since I use a digicam, I can take as many pics as I like and discard what doesn't turn out. It's a lot more enjoyable that way... in the past with my 35mm cams, I simply didn't feel that I could afford to shoot as much as I wanted to. I love digital for that reason alone!
