4/26/2002: Saved tapir
![]() Happy Friday. These beasts are called "tapirs". The momma there is named "Conchita" and the baby is "Carmina". This was the first birth of a Tapir at the Hannover (Germany) zoo. But when Carmina came out, she wasn't breathing. The zookeeper stepped in and performed mouth-to-trunk resuscitation and saved the baby. The Tapir pregnancy, it turns out, is 18 months long! Guh! ![]() The little one is doing fine. |

Tapirs are awesome! I like how the baby's got stripes 'n' spots.
I think those are the same things they had in the Walt Disney World Animal Kingdom, the Asia area, but I'm not sure. |

I'm assuming they lose the stripes and spots after a while? How long?
