New Camera
Im upgrading my SLR from a Konica Minolta 5d, to this little baby....
Sony a100 I looked at the A700, but cant justify double the price. Great thing is all my Konica lenses will fit on the a100, since Sony bought Konica. |

Damn!!! That 5D looks pretty nice itself, to be old & busted. I'm sure we don't have to ask for sample pics from the new hotness.

That is very nice like the fact that it is the ccd megapix not the interlaced ones.

You've taken some cracking pictures Ducks.
If Jinx recommends it my guess is you'll take many more.

Can I butt in and ask a question?as there seems to be a few camera Buffs on these boards is it possible to adjust a digital camera to shoot in black and white rather than adjusting the pictures on the PC.
I have a fujifilm finepix S5600 and I've been through the handbook but can't find anything on it I know it's not that expensive a camera but it's as much as I'm willing to spend at this time. |

You're welcome.
BTW, now that Ducks has a new camera, maybe she will post some artistic photos of herself.

i used to shoot (more than 10 years ago) and show landscape and artsy type crap and i was always a nikon guy. i stayed nikon through my different bodies because any old nikor (compatible) lens would fit any new model. i've still got my 35mm SLR and it is in fine shape, but i've been enjoying using it again. except now i'm doing more action and sports crap so i definitely want to move my SLR to digital. I'm thinking to stick with Nikon unless someone can give me a compelling reason not to.
Any thoughts? I'm never going to shoot pro quality stuff again, so i just need a good quality body, with a fast auto focus and fast shutter speed. megapixels and that kind of stuff is greek to me so what are the minimums i should be looking at? I'm thinking the D40X seems to be good bang for the buck as a lower-to mid range option. I'm just nervous with being digital that it will be obsolete and useless too quickly. I've used my old N8008 for about 12 years so obviously i like to hang on to them. http://nikonimaging.com/global/produ...d40x/index.htm

My D50 has treated me very well since I got it this past summer Lookout. I bought it used (most will be since they are out of production due to the new D40's out now) for a very reasonable price in comparison with other "entry level" dslr's. It has a very solid body, metal lens mount, 6mp which is all you'll need unless you want to some heavy cropping or poster sized prints, and like you said, it is compatible with older Nikon lenses.
The new D40's don't have a built in auto focusing mechanism, so they can only use a new line of lenses so I would avoid that route if I were you. If you want to know more about the D50, PM me and I'll send you all I know and have experienced with it.

huh, the lack of AF mechanism kind of sucks. but it looks like i can pick up a D40X for about $750 with a nikor 18-55 and 55-200. those two lenses should get me where i need to go in the auto focus world. buying used bodies make me nervous as i just don't do this enough to know good from bad anymore.
***ok, it seems that the real difference between the D40 and the D40X is 4.1 megapixels and $200. What do the megapixels really mean to me and are they worth an extra $200?

With the lenses you already have, it makes a lot of sense to stick with Nikon.
You might look for a D50 in good condition.. I don't know what the specs are like on the D40 but the D50 is a great camera and will probably be cheaper. I personally would buy the 6.1 megapixel model and put the $200 toward a lens or an external flash. |
