Out Of The Frying Pan....
Things have been looking great. I finally find the perfect house for my family. I just entered into escrow to buy it.
Today my boss called me in to tell me they love my work, but they can't afford me anymore. I will have a new and likely better paying job within a week or two, but this will screw up any chances I have for getting our house. I'm so sad.

Holy Shit.
1. Say NOTHING to the Realtor or the mortgage broker or anyone else. This need not screw up your purchase if you keep quiet until you get a new job. 2. Stay positive - process the trauma later. 3. Call every IT recruiter in your area and ask if they have any reqs fitting your skills. 4. Scan the websites of IT placement firms - sometimes you can get lucky even in a bad economy. 5. Don't give up! I am so sorry to hear this - it makes me sick. Keep fighting, Radar. You deserve to own a home for your family. One more thing - beg your boss for two more weeks.

Yeh really - keep your mouth shut and take the other job from your old boss. He offered you one right? Just fill out the paper and move on QUIETLY.

My boss is going to pay me for the next two weeks but I don't have to work so I can find a job. They are also going to keep my family on the insurance for 2 months and keep paying for my cell phone and Internet access.
I called my old boss and the old consulting company I worked for about 5 or 6 years ago and they are both interested. Of the two, I'd rather get the job with my old boss. He loves me and knows what I'm worth. The problem is I just started the loan paperwork. If I can pull it off without losing the house, I'll feel pretty great. I really love the house. I took a bunch of photos today of the inside. I'll post them.

Why do you have to tell the bank you've lost your job? If you do the bank paperwork while you're still technically employed by the company, you're not committing any kind of fraud what so ever, and to cover your own finances, just get another job as quick as you can.
There's really no reason why you should have to lose the house if you work smart on this.

That sucks Radar - very sorry to hear it.
I second, third etc etc the advice of the others to keep quiet and see if you can swing it anyway... Good luck (Guess there'll be no spare money for boob jobs now)

Damn. I hope everything works out for you Radar. Bad timing really sucks. Try to get your old boss to put you on as soon as possible. Make it will look like you were already planning on switching jobs.

I'd be hesitant to take on a mortgage under such circumstances. (YMMV) You don't want the financing yanked or the interest rate to be jacked up because of something in fine print on the contract. Put the closing date out beyond the point where you will start your new job, though, and everything should be fine. Good luck and best wishes to you!
