monster, did I ever tell you my Alan Alda story? In HS my best friend called the William Morris Agency to request that he attend my birthday party, because I was his "biggest fan." I'm sure whoever she spoke with got a big chuckle out of it...but a few months later I got a big brown envelope (I think from Universal Studios?) and inside was an autographed picture of Alan Alda. It said "To (Shaw), Peace! Alan Alda"

He's to blame for my Who obsession. I'd never have reconnected with the whole Who thing as an adult had he not been cast in the movie. I've been a fan of his since Monocled Mutineer, in the mid 80s.
