High Tea

I am adding a new catering option to my menu. High Tea.

My question for those of you who have attended a high tea before is: how many portions do you normally have? I am thinking 6 is fairly reasonable, but that's just me. What do you think?

I've been to zero high teas in my life, though the spread you've shown us here looks lovely and delicious, it looks a bit too precious for my tastes. I admire it though.

I've helped cater a number of High Teas in the past ... we typically had three savory sandwiches, some sort of savory open-face hors d'oeuvre, possibly a tiny portion of a cream soup, and then went wild with the sweets - tarts, cakes, etc.

If by portions you mean courses/types of sandwiches/cakes, I'd say you're in the right ballpark.

Your pics look right on. Lovely!

Offer plenty of choice in the teas - a black, a green, and a flavored/herbal. Also coffee and cold drinks. The idea is that it's a late afternoon 'snack' that will last you until a late evening dinner. Simpler 'tea' offers a sandwich or two and a cake, with a beverage ... 'High Tea' offers more savory options and a wider selection of sweets.

This was just the table set before the ladies arrived. The tea came later.

Can't write much now, but for future ref (if you're interested ) search Hartwell and Bettys under my username . Not strictly High Tea, as that tends to be more substantial, but certainly Afternoon Tea.

Thanks Sundae. I already have a booking to do another one just after Christmas for a baby shower. I am hoping to grow this arm of the business, because although it all looks fancy, it actually doesn't cost much to prepare, so it's a good money spinner for me, and I can also pay one of the big kids to do the service and clean up. Gives me a chance to help the kids out with their savings as well as make some money for myself.

Yes grav, they are huge...and the sweetest strawberries ever. I salivate every year when it's strawberry season. They come from a local farmer.

Those two aren't even as big as they get. The kids found one in a punnett the other day which was bigger than max's closed fist. Massive!
