We're down to about 4 or 5 names atm.

Darcy, Tye, Alex (or Lex), and I can't remember the other couple so I'd say they're out of the running for now.

Dazza suggested Julian or some other girly name which I rejected the other day.

I like Alex. I don't think I have known a male Darcy...I have known some females with that name, though.

Darcy is definitely a girl's name in the US. I like Tye, but I've only ever seen it spelled Ty.

What about Tugboat? all aussie soaps have one, don't they?

Lex is cool. Like Max, but less of a gentleman. I also read some interesting slash fiction on Lex Luther (suggested by Cloud) and he certainly was not a gentleman in that!

How about an animal name like Wolf or Tiger? Actually I knew a young guy whose family always called him Tigger - it was so wonderfully cute to hear this late teen, who was rather brooding in a Heathcliff way, respond to such a childish name. Made me a bit weak at the knees actually! (No I didn't sleep with him - I was sleeping with his cousin)

Or Spider! Very Australian. Although I suppose with Dazza's job a fish name would be more appropriate. Hey - how about Sandy? As in the fish spirit in Monkey. Monster might think that's too... sandy though.

I really don't want to give this child a dumb name that'll be difficult to deal with. Something out of the mainstream is ok, but I'm not naming him after an animal SG. lol

Darcy is a family name on my side, and it's masculine. It was my great uncles name. Darcy Doyle. How's that for some UK roots?

I like Max. That was one of the names we'd thought up one day when there wasn't much doing. Maybe I should bring it up again.

If I saw Darcy on a job application form I'd assume it was male. But then the merkins think Robin is female, so it's pbvious there's a cultural divide anyway.

I think you should go with Max, but make his formal name Maximillian, or Maximus.

There was a kid in the store named Maximus the other day (his mother kept yelling at him to stop wandering off, so everyone in the store knew his name by the time they left.)

yes, I always saw Darcy as a male name before I moved here. And Robin. Sidney's female here too.

Mav and Max might get you mixed up a bit (not a personal comment, I had enough difficulty with Hebe and Hector and they were different sexes)

Actually, when I mentioned Max to the kids, Mav pointed out to me that apparently, Max is the number one dog name in Australia. That doesn't really surprise me. Now that I think about it, I know two dogs named Max.

As far as getting Max and Mav mixed up, it's probably actually a good choice really. I spend a lot of time calling Aden, Maden because I go to call Mav when I mean Aden.

I think all parents call their kids by the wrong siblings name sometimes or as I do, create some whole new combination of both.

At least if there's Max and Mav, Aden wont have to suffer another strange name being added to the list.
