IIRC, there seems to have been more new members listed at the bottom of the main index page with actual female names than actual male names. It also seems that often neither shows up in the forums. Is there a predominant reason why?

2/3rds of all new accounts turn out to be spammers from Asia. They use western names in order to seem legitimate. I suppose they chose female names because they have more success with them.

not just e-spammers.
having worked as a manager in telesales in Britain with a workforce of almost all from the Indian subcontinent with typical names, they almost all adopted Western aliases.
bloody weird listening to your employee called Virender or Darmesh speaking in a heavily Indo-Pakistani accent and saying his name is Vincent or Danny.

I openly laughed at one once--not a telemarketer, I just hang up on them, but a customer service number I had called.

He said, "My name is Steve,"
and I involuntarily snorted and said, "No it's not!"
I wish so much that he had taken me up on it and told me his real name, but he just cowered and said, "Ah, uh, er--how may I help you ma'am?"

At the top right of the banner there is an old typewriter.

It's surely been a long time since that banner was made but might someone know what make and model that typewriter is?

I'm looking for pics and info on that exact typewriter so that I might model it in Maya for use in a Cellar video.

Pictures would be most helpful but the make and model would be helpful too. Maybe there are some detailed images on the net of it somewhere.

Does anyone have any info on this?

you could try this:
http://www.google.co.uk/images?q=roy...d=0CAsQsAQ#i=7

or just google Royal typewriter for more pics.
I'm not convinced it's the same model, but our banner one has a family resemblance to Royal (as opposed to other makes like Remington for example)

It may be an "artist's interpretation" too.

Perfect.

This is the one from the banner, IMO. Pretty close if not THE one.

Thanks for the info Molasar.

When the details get too complicated to add to the model, I'll use the "artist's interpretation" Bruce.

I saw this extract in the post preview and thought ... "Uh oh! We've got another live one here!".

what? another live one?

incidentally the Royal I worked with was a dumb machine that did fuck all until you pushed its buttons. and I had a typewriter as well.

changing the subject, I cut this out of Down at the pawn shop #967

I agree.
And the sex is better too.

I'm like planet Earth in the upgraded 'Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy' viz. "(mostly) harmless".
